The vacation that can help heal you

Woman RelaxingSmallVacations are good. Generally. We know that. Unless you run around like a crazy person, doing too much, a vacation usually means you relax a little more, feel happier, feel better. But vacations, unfortunately, don’t happen all the time. So, what can you do to help restore yourself … minus the expense and dedicated days of time?

This: Give yourself a day, ideally. Or, part, if that’s all you can manage right now. (But work on that, ‘kay?) What do you do with this day? You do … nothing. Nada. Not a thing. Zero. Nope, not that either. Nor that. It doesn’t matter where you are, as long as that place is a spot where you can honor this and that, also, the people around, if there are ones, honor it, too. Heck, pull them into it with you!

What you need to do is give yourself permission to do nothing. You’re on vacation. Complete vacation. No touring cool spots or driving or being productive or responsible or smart or doing anything. (Reference above … nada.) No house projects, no work, no worries, no errands, no exercise, no nothing. Just be. Relax. Empty your brain.

Like I always, always, always say: When you do this, find your own evidence. How did doing this make you feel? Crazy, more stressed, WHY aren’t you getting anything done? Okay, maybe not your thing. And maybe more that you need to get a handle on that mindset. (Mindset is just as much a part of wellness as broccoli.) What I think you’ll feel though is amazed. Amazed at how much better you feel after that small bit of giving yourself a break. Good enough that if you could bottle this living-much-better-feeling up, you’d make a fortune.

Here was my result: I felt so ridiculously energized and calm and happy and crazy well that it was almost hard for even ME to believe! I did one day. A one-day, nope, I’m On Pure Vacation Today, day. Any time my brain tried to tell me, “Well, you’re sitting there, doing a whole lot of nothing so why don’t you just do x?” I told it, “Nope, on vacation.” Every single time … “Nope, on vacation.” It was so useful. I had been running to the max. Too much to do, too much to think about, too much of everything. Plus I have that brain that goes Olympic speed the bulk of the time. (No, that’s not a good thing.)

Try it. Give yourself a well-cation, and see what happens. You need it. AND you deserve it.
