What is the best health insurance you can have? It is … you. In other words, learning to be master of your own health, and taking back your own power to be well. That’s insurance against needing insurance.
Too often, we believe only other people have enough intelligence and years in school to figure out what we need to do to stay healthy or get healthy. We give all our power away to someone else.
I bet you get nudges all the time of what you need to do regarding your health. You can get a good sense of what works for you and what doesn’t if you’re noticing. You need to, one, quiet the part of your brain that over thinks, and, two, stop listening so much to what everyone else does and wants you to do. Even if those people are professionals. If something suggested alarms you, listen to that. Don’t override it with chatter. Or because you’re handing all the power over to medical people. It’s not going to hurt to further check out that idea/direction/prescription/etc.
Of course, you, on occasion, may need to team up with health professionals. The key word, though is: team. Don’t forget that you’re on the team, too. In fact, you are the star quarterback. You know your body best, and that is why you need to embrace the power to make its best call.
When you remember this, practice it and use it, you can make better choices when you decide what next health move to make, what you want to choose or not choose when you visit a traditional or alternative doctor and so on. Because you then are confident in knowing you have an amazing capability to understand your own body. Plus, you’re smart enough to say, “Hold on there a minute. I want to check that out.” Then check it out. You’re reading this; you can gather information and see what that says to you. Then you might have your decision. Or you might have more questions to bring back to the professional. Either way, this becomes a better-for-you decision than giving up and going with whatever someone says.
It does take a little effort if you’ve given this power away, but you can get it back. Once you’re there — or even moving in that direction, you’ll do a better job protecting your health for the rest of your life because you are more likely to arrive at the right choices for you.
What are the first steps to getting back in line with your own knowledge and power? They’re pretty easy. Simply start listening to and trusting your intuition. If something seems right, continue with where that’s leading you. If something seems wrong, check it out further before accepting what may be a bad choice for you. Try it with smaller decisions, then you’ll be able to move on with faith to larger ones.
