How to jumpstart being well

Spring BudsIt’s spring. Another time of what feels like all things new again. Take that sense of freshness and apply it to your health. Ready? Awesome, let’s maximize your quest for something fresh and new.

Here’s how to make new wellness decisions that will help you succeed, not fail:

Keep it positive.

Talk about what you will do, not what you won’t. For example, decide: I’m going to eat some nuts for a snack in the afternoon. Not: I’m going to stop eating those stupid potato chips out of the vending machine when I’m hungry! Which feels better? Which is more encouraging? Positive works. Negative eventually fails.

Keep it small.

As above – switch out one unhealthy choice for a healthy one. Don’t try to overhaul every bit of what you are trying to change.

Keep it focused.

Decide how, when and how often you’re going to do your resolution. Not: I’m going to meditate. Instead: I’m going to spend 15 minutes most days meditating before I go to bed.

Keep it reasonable.

As above, please give yourself a reasonable out. Demanding that you do something every single day is unreasonable and filled with negative potential. Because, sooner or later, you’ll hit a day when achieving your plan just isn’t possible. Then what happens? You feel like a failure. You give up. Not a good plan.

Using all of the above will create an enjoyable journey to wellness. Hats off to that. Wellness should be embraced, not endured. And guess what? When you embrace it and enjoy it, you’ll … do it.
