How to figure out what parts of wellness work for you

How to figure out wellness that works (or, rather, plays) for you – the Cliff’s Notes version!

If you think of, hear of, read about a way to be healthier, and it makes you feel – Oh, cool, that sounds interesting; I think I’ll give it a try!! – then, please, do. Have fun with it. Tweak it. Make it your own but always with an aim toward keeping that feeling of, “Hey, pretty cool!”

If you come across some idea that makes you feel – Crap, I really don’t want to do that, but I s’pose I’d better – dear Lord, please skip the blasted thing!

As I was chatting with my friend Sophie recently (who is a health freak in France; how wrong is that?), I said, “Geez, people have got to start thinking for themselves in this wellness thing. It’s like if they’re told, “Hey, you need to go eat raw goat balls – they’ll run to get the nasty things!” One of Sophie’s favorite things, I swear, is me being obnoxious so she made me promise that would show up in a blog entry. Sophie – this is for you! And anyone else who has been told to eat raw goat balls and had a few reservations. 🙂

I’m adding, of course, any needed caveats, disclaimers and therefores and thereins! Remember, you still have to think for yourself. When I was seriously ill, my holistic doc said, “Hey, Cindy, I can help you, but, if you don’t also do your part, this ain’t gonna work so well.” (Okay, he doesn’t talk like that, but, you know …. I do, and I get to translate how I want!) Then he gave me a list of all that was “my” part. Believe me, I wasn’t overjoyed or saying, “Cool!” or anything close. I pouted. I proclaimed it would probably kill me. I cried. (Yup, I did.) And then I pulled up my big girl panties and realized I wanted to be fully well, so if this is what it took, then this is what it took; bring it ON!

But that was an extreme case. If you’re not facing any serious disease, follow paragraph 2. Delight in life again; it’ll bring you wellness just as assuredly. I am freakin’ tired of wellness being seen as involving a bunch of dry, tortured, no fun, boring health crazies. There are a whole bunch of us having a blast on this planet AND staying well, too, our way. So can you!
