Make your GMO decision

GMOs – do you want to avoid them … or not? Do you know why? Do you feel like you can make a good decision? Or are you confused and give up because you’re overwhelmed?

Please let me help. Let’s start with the potential health issues:

According to the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, several animal studies indicate there are serious health risks associated with ingesting genetically-modified food. Those include: infertility, immune issues, accelerated aging, disrupted regulation of insulin, cancer and changes in major organs and the gastrointestinal system.

What appears to be the safest choice for your health? To me, that is avoiding GMOs. I’m not gambling with my health. It seems to be that every time we do something faster, bigger, better regarding what we eat, it ends up making us sicker.

The graphic below will give you more info to help you make up your mind. I can’t see how any good can come from GMOs. The only way to be sure you’re protected is to avoid them. So, yes, we need them labeled so we can maintain freedom of choice. But, even more, we need them not to be grown. Why? GM and non-GM crops cannot peacefully co-exist. Experience in North America has shown that coexistence of GM and non-GM crops rapidly results in widespread contamination of non-GM crops. GM rice grown for only one year in field trials was found to have widely contaminated the U.S. rice supply and seed stocks. Contaminated rice was found as far away as Africa, Europe and Central America. Indeed, is this what companies promoting GMOs want? Eventually, much of the food supply could become tainted by GMOs – and then any arguments about labeling are worthless.

Many other countries have a variety of bans on GMOs. If – a big if at this point – we could get to this point in the U.S., we could again freely choose the foods we want to eat without worry about damage to our health. We wouldn’t have to avoid corn, soy and more.

My concern about allowing GMOs is how far this will go. How limited will our food choices become if GMOs invade other plants, and we want to avoid GMOs? Still, don’t let that overwhelm you. You deserve to protect your health and feel well. Don’t give that up too easily. It’s not worth it. Today, avoiding GMOs is absolutely do-able if you want to make sure you’re protecting your health.
