When you’re looking for answers when you don’t feel your best, what do you do? Google everything and everybody, in effect. You ask your loved ones, your friends, your co-workers, the person who cuts your hair. You search the ‘net. Maybe you go to the doc. And maybe another. And maybe all that is of use. Absolutely not saying it can’t be.
But you’re missing a crucial piece. And that would be?? You. Google you. Look inside for some hints. Clues. Answers. What’s been bopping around your brain, head, heart, soul that’s trying to get your attention? Yeah, that. Maybe that holds a whole bunch of value in sorting out why you feel like crap lately.
I’ll use myself as a case in point. Yeppers, wellness coaches get ill, too. I ain’t perfect. Wellness isn’t over and done for and no longer requires any of my attention. So, onward. The story:
Sleep was hellacious a few years back. Nothing I could do — used in the past, knew to do, tried — was making a damn bit of difference. I was waking up in these nasty sweats that really do a number on your sleep.
Ah, hah, you’re already saying. Cindy, Cindy, I know, I know! You’re female, you’re of that age. It’s hot flashes.
Right? Wrong.
That’s where I goofed, too. I tried to fix it from that angle, too. Didn’t ponder anything else. Couldn’t get anywhere. Even went for hormone testing and tried natural hormone creams and all that stuff. Nothing. Still couldn’t stay asleep for crap. Still sweating like I was running a marathon in a steam room.
Finally went to my holistic doc. (This usually is my first step when I can’t remedy what’s happening, but, you know … hormones. He’s a guy. He wouldn’t get it. Right? Wrong.) He does his magical stuff. He pronounces that I have low blood sugar. The magical fix? Eat a few almonds before I go to bed.
Yes, eat a few almonds … all natural, all crazy easy. Really, can you imagine? But I did it. Good night’s sleep. First night. Go figure.
But you know, the real problem was — all the focus was on what would be typical for that symptom for a female in her 50s. But that wasn’t even in the ballpark. If I’d listened to my own guidance, I could have saved myself all the time, worry, lack of sleep and expense. I had gotten that intuitive hit long before. Several times, it popped into my head: Is something wrong with my blood sugar? If I’d even followed that up a little, I would have had my answer. At minimum, I could’ve tried eating something appropriate at night (like almonds, my dears, not cupcakes!) and see what happened.
See what I mean? If you stop asking/looking for/talking about the obvious, the real truth may come to you. It may have already come to you. And it may lead you to the answers that really will make a difference.
