Simple things to do to live well

Living well — being healthier in a whole life way — doesn’t have to involve big, complicated plans with a few spreadsheets. It can be simple. And enjoyable. And something you embrace because you easily recognize how much better your life is becoming. Here are some simple things you can do now that will help you live well: Give yourself a break.

Yes, I’m starting here because, in the wellness world, that’s probably the least of what you think of doing. You think — I should do this; I should’ve done that; I didn’t do that yet again yesterday. Give yourself a break. You’re human. We’re fallible. Start anew today or tomorrow. Start again in that moment. It’s all fine. Make time for something that will lift your heart. Talk about heart healthy — this is. Play. Talk to someone you adore. Smile. Laugh. Watch funny stuff. World of good in this simple addition. Be all monk-like … for a moment. Get quiet. It’s a busy, busy world. We really need doses of quiet to counter it. You don’t have to book yourself into a monastery or meditation retreat.

Simply find some moments of quiet in your day — every day. Turn off the noise, and sit. Observe. Enjoy. Quiet feels amazing, once you get a dose or six of it. Adopt one tiny, new habit. Really little. Nope, smaller than that. Small feels so ridiculously easy that you’ll do it because … well, it’s tiny.

Choose something you want to get started on, and decide how you can do one bitty nugget of it. Then … do the bitty nugget consistently — probably daily. If you want to do more, that’s fine. But if you just do the bitty, acknowledge that and go happily on your way. There’s magic in the miniscule.
