Summer lemonade … the healthy way

Doesn’t summer just call for a tall glass of cold lemonade some days? There’s something about lemonade that makes a perfect thirst quencher for a long, hot summer day. Of course, water should be your go-to most of the time, but a change of pace is welcome, too.

The usual lemonade, though, is about the same as you having a big piece of cake. It’s filled with too much sugar, and, if you buy some of the pre-made varieties, extra chemicals that you can’t pronounce and your body can’t process.

But, you’re in luck! There’s an easy way to make lemonade that’s great for your body still. Here’s my “recipe:”

Cut a beautiful, fresh lemon into wedges. Squeeze a couple of these into a big, glass of chilled, filtered water. Drop in the lemon rinds as well. Add a couple packets or the equivalent of stevia powder. Stir. Enjoy! Adjust any of the quantities to taste. More or less lemon; more or less stevia.

Haven’t yet become a stevia lover? Here’s how to ease in: Replace some of the stevia with sugar. Yes, sugar isn’t your best choice, but this is temporary. And I don’t really feel, if you’re basically well, that a bit of sugar is going to be the end of you. Try to use as little sugar as you can manage. Then gradually scale it down. One day, you’ll find that you enjoy my lemonade recipe as much, if not more, than the type you used to drink.

Take this suggestion, and keep it applying it elsewhere. Bit by bit, you teach your tastebuds to appreciate healthier choices. Remember my motto? Wellness does not need to equal feeling deprived and tortured. And this is how you do it – small change by small change.
