Have you read a good, short piece of fiction lately? What – you say no, you don’t have time? I have the shortest fiction ever: Go read the front of most of the packaged foods on store shelves.
For example, consider a box of cereal. See those plump blueberries shown on the package and the descriptive label that makes your mouth water? Makes you think blueberries – that tiny bit of succulence that is so great for your health – is in there, right? Wrong. More likely what you’re getting is this: Trans fats, food dye, tons of sugar and a nice dusting of other chemicals. Not exactly blueberries.
Because if there are real blueberries in that product, here’s what the ingredient label will say …. blueberries. Yep, just that word. A recognizable word. Not a blueberry that was concocted in a lab.
The ingredient list is the only writing on a packaged product you can trust. That list is truth (for the most part). The rest of the label – including even telling you that an item contains no trans fats? Not so much.
You know where I’m going with this. Save a bit of money now – buy chemical blueberries – and pay later with both your bank account and your health. Get informed instead. Read the actual ingredient list, often the only truth on a food label, and protect your well being.
